Celestial Dragons were a group of Oriental Dragons which pulled the chariots of the Chinese gods and guard their palaces. Each Celestial Dragon is given a pearl which she or he may ascend to heaven with. Without their pearls, they lose their status as Celestial Dragons and become Dilong, whom guard over mountains, rivers and streams. They are bound to Earth.
Gouhi is one such Celestial Dragon. He descended from the great Huanglong, who wrote upon gold tablets the language of the kingdom, giving man writing. But Gouhi was tossed out of the heavens for eating humans, which dragons were forbid to do. He terrorized the Chinese and Japanese coastlines along the East Sea. He was soothed from his rage by taking human sacrafices, usually female shrine maidens.
One day Gouhi came upon a small Chinese island offering a very beautiful girl. He gobbled her up, but the purity of her heart upset his stomach for ten days. At the end of the ten days, he regurgitated his partially digested meal. The girl had been half-changed, with a human torso and a long serpentine body. And she became forsaken to both humans and dragons. The only creature that loved her were the snakes of the Earth, which were also forsaken. Her name is Kaitenkou.
Because of her disconnection to dragons, she requires feeding. She preys on humans once a month, further isolating herself from them. Once every month her body secretes material that grows into an egg, and she sleeps for two days and regenerates in the egg. After every hatching her coloration and scale type changes.
If I ever have to draw another scale again it'll be too soon!
I don't know about anyone else, but this redesign is still rather lovely. I rather fell in love with the first picture I saw of her, and your pictures of her are absolutely amazing.

<3 I love her redesign and her egg teeth! That's really awesome to have eggteeth horns that fall off D: im srs. Sorry i'm so late in commenting on this, I haven't had a chance to read it until just now and didn't want to comment on it without reading it!
Anyway, you did a fantastic job on the scales, and a fantastic job on that pearl <3 i like that the pearl reflects light onto her scales because it just . .. brings it more into the picture even though it's just there for reference, you know. like not interacting. idk. i dont make sense!
thanks for pasting her story into the description <3 because i love it. maybe one day when i feel like killing myself (hate drawing women AND scaleS) i'd draw her.
she can be patterned right?

You have an extreme grasp of the completely obvious ♥
Yes she can. I actually had a layer for a striped pattern in this picture but decided to not use it. Her patterns are always close to something existing with snakes, but it doesn't have to be exact.

I believe in Micro-Plate Tectonics but not Macro-Plate Tectonics. Sure, elevation can change a few inches here and there. But a few inches over millions of years could not possibly produce a mountain.
What an amazing backstory! 0: I love the detail in the scales and her horns are gorgeous! I have nooo idea how you had the patience to sit there and do all those scales, but it definitely payed off. Great work! I can't wait to see more of her. c':
